About the Glyfada Golf Course

Do I need a tee time?

Tee times are strongly recommended in order to minimize any inconvenience that waiting to tee off may cause.

What’s a tee time & how do I make one?

To schedule a tee time, call the Caddie Master at the Glyfada Golf Course.

Ask to make a tee time around the desired time you’d like to play. The golf course Caddie Master will ask you a few questions including time you’d like to play, how many holes you’d like to play, how many players you will have, and whether your group will be using golf carts or walking. After answering the questions, the attendant will let you know your tee time, and you will be all set to play golf!

The phrase “tee time” indicates the exact time your group will be on the 1st tee box, ready to play golf. Be prepared to arrive at the golf course 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tee time to check in, get snacks, warm up, etc.

General

Why should I golf?

There is a very long list of reasons to play golf, but I’ll only list a few:

  • Golf is a great way to get exercise

  • Golf is a great sport for young Kids

  • Golf is a valuable business tool, and can be a great way to connect with co-workers. The game of golf is filled with friendly, interesting, and successful people.

  • Golf is good for your body - The average course requires a person to walk over five miles, carrying or pushing a bag and walking up and down different undulations. This can be a great workout, and can burn up to 2,000 calories depending on how flat or hilly the course is. Even if you are taking a cart, the golf swing itself is a full body workout, using arms, legs, and core muscles. Imagine the results if you do this on a daily or even weekly basis.

  • Golf is good for your mind - As physical as golf can be, 90% of the game is mental. An 18 hole round is basically one long mental exercise, constantly making you think and forcing you to stay focused on the task at hand. Golf can also help relieve stress, anxiety, and even depression.

  • It fosters a healthy sense of competition...When meeting new golfer friends, one of the first things they'll ask is your handicap. Genuine curiosity could turn into a sense of envy once you realise they're a little better at the game. So long as you don’t take it too far, competition can actually be good for you, encouraging you to challenge yourself and improve your own skills.

  • Golf can improve concentration and boost your brain. Golf is a sport that teaches accuracy, focus and concentration. It also encourages creativity and creative thinking, such as the foresight to visualise where and how far your shot will go.

  • Hand-eye coordination is essential in golf – as is knowing where your ball landed. The course can often be a quieter place to learn these skills, without the roar of a crowd or the umpire's whistle to distract you.

  • Golfing is a fairly active pastime, and getting your circulation going means more blood is pumped to your brain. There's been plenty of research into how playing golf affects how you think. Repeated swings improve your muscle memory, and navigating a course gives you a greater sense of distance and depth.

  • Golf is a great way to bond with friends or family

  • Golf is a great way to relax, and get away from the daily grind

  • Golf gets you closer to nature, and further away from your cell phone. Perhaps the most beautiful and amazing part of golf is where it takes place. Unlike any other sport, golf requires many acres and miles of land to play, and most courses offer an abundance of trees, animals, and other wildlife to enjoy.

  • Golf can be enjoyed at any age

  • Starting kids in the game of golf early

"I never played a round when I didn't learn something new about the game." - Ben Hogan.

There's probably not a golfer around who wouldn't agree with the great Ben Hogan. The benefits of golf for children are enormous. Golf is a game of constant learning, practicing, honing, and humbling.  And the learning aspect of it translates well beyond the fairways. Starting your children with golf may be one of the best things you can do for them. There are so many children who can learn from the game on a physical, social and emotional level and so many benefits they can gain from spending time on the green. These benefits can have powerful and long-lasting effects on your child's development right through to adult year

  • Golf is FUN

Golf Etiquette 101

Here’s a few tips to make sure fun is had by all:

  1. Do your best to keep up with the group in front of you. If your group starts to lose sight of the group playing in front of you, and the group playing behind you is right on your tail, let them “play through” as soon as it is convenient, on the next tee box preferably.

  2. If you hit a wayward shot, and it looks like it is heading in the general direction of other people, OR you can’t see the area where the ball will land, ALWAYS yell FORE!! Fore is the universal symbol for “duck” in golf, so players know to keep their head down or take cover. Safety is just as important as anything else on the golf course.

  3. Play “Ready Golf” to improve the pace of play. If you are ready to play your shot, and nobody else in your group is ready to hit their shot, feel free to hit your ball as long as it is safe to do so.

  4. Keep quiet while other players are standing over their ball. Talking or laughing while other people are hitting can be distracting, and is generally considered rude.

  5. Keep golf carts at least 20 feet away from all greens & tee boxes.

  6. Leave the golf course as you find it. When you remove the pin from the hole, replace it. When you have to hit out of the bunker, rake the sand. If you take a large divot out of the fairway, replace the piece of grass. If your ball lands on the green and creates a ball mark, fix it.

  7. Be kind & courteous to your fellow players. Playing poorly or being in a bad mood is not a good reason to ruin the day of the players around you.

  8. HAVE FUN. The more fun you can have, the more relaxed you’ll be, the better you’ll play, and the more fun you’ll have. Spread the word, it’s contagious.
